Billing
Pest control recurring billing — quarterly vs monthly, and when to switch

# Pest control billing frequency matters
The pest control industry mostly still bills quarterly. That's a
holdover from paper-check days when nobody wanted to write a check
every month. It's costing you money.
## Monthly billing wins on 3 metrics
### 1. Cancellations drop 40-50%
A $360/quarter charge stings. When it hits the credit card, customers
ask "do we still need this?" A $30/month charge is invisible — it
lives in the same mental bucket as Netflix.
The industry data: monthly-billed pest customers churn at 8-12%/year.
Quarterly-billed customers churn at 18-25%.
### 2. LTV rises 30-40%
Fewer cancellations = customers stay 3-4 years vs 2 years. A pest
customer worth $360/quarter × 4 quarters × 3.5 years is $5,040 LTV.
Same customer worth $30/month × 42 months is $6,300 LTV. Same crew,
same product, better retention.
### 3. Cash flow smooths out
Quarterly billing = cash comes in Jan/Apr/Jul/Oct. February, June,
September your bank account looks scary. Monthly = smooth curve.
Bookkeeper is happier. Your line of credit is smaller.
## Why crews still resist
- "But I only service the property quarterly!"
— Right. And Netflix only ships you a movie you actually watch
once every 3 months. Billing frequency ≠ service frequency.
- "But my customers hate change!"
— New customers won't. Old customers get grandfathered.
- "But I already bill quarterly in QuickBooks!"
— Service Pro Suite runs monthly recurring on autopay via Stripe.
QuickBooks catches it via the accounting sync.
## The migration script
For existing quarterly customers:
> "We're moving to monthly billing because it's easier on our
> customers' budgets — same total, spread over 3 payments. Your
> service schedule doesn't change. First monthly charge will be
> [DATE], for $[amount]. Card on file will run automatically."
Roughly 90% roll over without complaint. Grandfather the 10% who
push back — you'll lose them anyway if you force a change.
## The retention math
A pest control company with 500 customers migrating quarterly → monthly:
- **Retention +10 percentage points** = 50 fewer cancellations/year
- **Each save is worth ~$2,000 LTV**
- **Annual value: +$100K**
That is the highest-ROI operational change in the industry, and it's
free.
## In Service Pro Suite
Convert existing service presets from quarterly to monthly cadence.
Recurring billing switches automatically — Stripe handles the change
of frequency on the customer's card, no re-authorization needed.
